KYC and AML Policy

How SapphireBet verifies players, monitors activity and prevents money laundering and terrorist financing.

Last updated: 14 July 2026

This Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Policy explains how SapphireBet — operated by Hermes Consulting Company N.V. and licensed by the Curaçao Gaming Control Board (licence [licence number]) — identifies and verifies its players, monitors account activity and prevents the use of our services for money laundering, terrorist financing or other financial crime.

Purpose and commitment

SapphireBet is committed to operating a safe, transparent and lawful gaming platform. We take a risk-based approach to compliance and align our controls with applicable AML and counter-terrorist-financing (CTF) laws and the conditions of our Curaçao Gaming Control Board licence. Every player agrees to this policy as part of our Terms and Conditions.

Know Your Customer (identity verification)

Before you can withdraw funds — and at other points during your relationship with us — you must confirm your identity. We may ask you to provide:

  • A valid government-issued photo ID (passport, driver's licence or national ID)
  • Proof of address dated within the last three months (utility bill or bank statement)
  • Proof of the payment method used to deposit or withdraw
  • A selfie or short liveness check to confirm the ID belongs to you

Full details of the documents we accept and how to submit them are set out on our account verification page. SapphireBet is strictly for players aged 21 and over, and verification confirms your age as well as your identity.

Customer due diligence and enhanced due diligence

We apply customer due diligence (CDD) to every account, collecting and verifying identity information proportionate to the assessed risk. Where a player presents a higher risk — for example, unusually large transactions, a high-risk jurisdiction, or a match against a screening list — we apply enhanced due diligence (EDD), which may include additional documentation, source-of-funds checks and senior management approval to continue the relationship.

Ongoing monitoring

Compliance does not stop at sign-up. We continuously monitor deposits, withdrawals and playing patterns for activity that is inconsistent with a player's known profile. Where transactions appear unusual, we may request further information, apply limits, or temporarily suspend an account pending review.

Source of funds and source of wealth checks

Where risk indicators are present or transaction volumes are significant, we may ask you to evidence your source of funds (where the money used to play came from) and your source of wealth (how your overall assets were accumulated). Acceptable evidence may include payslips, tax records, bank statements or documentation of a sale or inheritance. We may pause withdrawals until satisfactory evidence is provided.

Sanctions and PEP screening

We screen players against applicable international sanctions lists and check whether a player is a Politically Exposed Person (PEP) or a close associate of one. A positive match triggers enhanced due diligence and senior sign-off. We do not knowingly provide services to sanctioned individuals or entities.

Suspicious activity reporting

Our compliance team investigates any activity that may indicate money laundering, fraud or terrorist financing. Where required, we file suspicious activity reports with the relevant authorities. By law we may be prohibited from informing a player that a report has been made ("tipping off").

Record keeping

We retain identity records, transaction histories and due-diligence documentation for the period required by applicable law and our licence conditions after an account is closed. These records are stored securely, in line with our Privacy Policy, and protected with 128-bit SSL encryption in transit.

Prohibited and restricted jurisdictions

SapphireBet cannot be used from countries or territories where our services are prohibited or where we do not hold the necessary permissions. It is your responsibility to ensure that online gaming is legal in your location. Accounts opened from a restricted jurisdiction, or using tools to disguise your location, may be closed and winnings withheld.

Employee training

Relevant staff receive regular AML and CTF training so they can recognise warning signs, escalate concerns to our nominated compliance officer and apply this policy consistently. Our controls are reviewed and updated to reflect changes in law, guidance and emerging risks.

Why we ask for documents

KYC checks protect you as much as us — they help stop fraud, keep underage and vulnerable people off the platform, and ensure that winnings are paid to the right person. Completing verification early means faster, smoother withdrawals later.
